Did you know that the USDA Food Guide reccommends that you eat 6-11 servings a day of breads, cereals,rice and pasta. These foods deserve the most emphasis in a diet. Instead of eating an egg or two for breakfast in which egg yolk is heavy in cholesterol you may want to consider my favorite, a bowl of Frosted Mini Wheats with a sliced up bannana and a piece of wheat bread with no butter. Most any type of cereal will do since most cereals are sprayed with vitamins.

That’s true that the USDA food guide pyramid, which is really just a teaching tool, suggests 6-11 servings of breads and cereals. I encourage people to go for more whole grains, such as 100 % whole wheat bread, whole grain cereals and whole wheat spaghetti and brown rice. Be careful though- most people eat larger portion sizes than they realize. A serving of bread is 1 slice- 1 oz. of regular sandwich type bread- a bun is 2 bread servings and a serving of most cereal is 1 oz. which can range from 3 Tbsp. of grape nuts to 1 1/4 cups puffed cereal. Unfortunately most people eat at least 2 X the serving size of 1 oz of cereal. Portion distortion can lead to creeping weight gain.
